No, the main thing is that the US or post-colonialist nations can't on the one hand denounce other countries for screwing over and oppressing others, and on the other doing exactly the same thing themselves.
More people are talking about the US than they are about China, the Philippines, or Vietnam here, beause it's an easy deflection.

The Chinese wouldn't dare to have economic sanctions against the US, either, so more or less, everyone is going to grumble at one another and things will stay the same. China can build as many islands as they want, and can put as many missiles as they want on them: the US is gonna keep sailing its ships and flying its planes over there at the request of the friendly nations whose waters are being invaded, and China isn't dumb enough to do anything about it.
They'll raise a bunch of banners, get a bunch of brainwashed young university students who don't have any actual ability to think critically to shout a lot of slogans about destroying America, maybe throw a brick through the window of my shop or something because I'm American, boycott KFC, smash iPhones, maybe tip over a Chevy and beat up the Chinese guy driving it. But you know what they won't do? Use their military to enforce anything. The powers that be know what would actually happen if they did.

Didn't the Chinese sailed their warships into US waters too a year ago ? And the Chinese regularly enter Japanese waters around the main islands, and never paid the Japanese air defense id zone any attention....so what's all this fuss? Nobody recognize anyone's Id zone. The point is that great powers don't directly challenge each other. I bet the US will never touch any Chinese islands, and the Japanese will never touch Chinese su31s flying over the diaoyus.

I don't know why the Chinese don't just tow this junk off the reef. Beijing is too wishy washy. If it were Putin, that wreck would have been blown up years ago along with all the filipino squatters onboard.
