Oh my God, was that really closing ceremony of Sea Games?

Like seriously? Sorry, Pinoy, that's just terrible. The worst in decade.

I’m confused why we’re talking about the SEA Games in this thread. Most of the events were in NCC, and thats where the closing ceremony was. The opening was in Victoria. Neither of those places are in Metro Manila

this is due to a small budget ... in Indonesia our country ready to host prestigious sports such as the Olympics and Fifa World Cup, Indonesia is never lacking budget

Yeah Indonesia has a huge budget. Lots of money. A lot more than the Philippines, but can't even get its HDI above the Philippines. What a shame.

The two have pretty much the same HDI and inequality-adjusted HDI. If there’s an issue with one place’s HDI, then it’s an issue with the other two. Both aren’t the worst, but also can use a lot of improvement.

So that shows that Indonesia's great wealth, concerts, performances, etc don't even matter because they end up having the same quality of life as the Philippines, a much poorer country. That's a damn shame. Maybe stop wasting money on skyscrapers, concerts, Asian games, etc. and improve your quality of life.

Yea, pretty much. Both cities have massive issues and aren't generally the first choice for people who have options available for living or visiting. There's certainly a few other southeast Asian cities that seem to have their **** together a lot more than either city mentioned here or the countries those cities are in. I think the reason why this topic is so contentious is both have roughly equally difficult issues.

Lifting up 250 million people is not an easy task. As I always say, Indonesia grew from the very rock bottom after independence, yet still got threatened by Dutch several times, facing several wars to defend our independence. While Philippines was like sitting on a golden throne, you have anything needed to be successful.

And if you see the indicators to rank HDI, Indonesia is actually better in more important indicators that matters like life expectancy, GNI Percapita, Employment rate, skilled labor, etc. But fall short in indicators like Gender development, multi-dimensional poverty, Internet user (Indonesia has only 39.8% population with access to internet? What a joke! I don't know where the fvck they got their misleading data), etc.

Anyway,
Indonesia has 171 million internet users: Study

Quote:
The number of internet users in Indonesia increased by 10 percent last year, according to a recent study by Polling Indonesia conducted in cooperation with the Indonesian Internet Providers Association (APJII).

The study shows that 171 million people, or 64.8 percent of the total population of 264 million Indonesians, were already connected to the internet in 2018. The figure represents an increase from 54.86 percent recorded in 2017.

We all know the West favored the Philippines more than Indonesia to be successful, but come on lah 39.8% is way too far from 64.8%.

Do the same for Manila and Jakarta's quality of life...

Despite what HDI says, I think Indonesia has an overall better quality of life than the Philippines.

But when it comes to Jakarta and Manila's quality of life, both major indexes (Mercer and the Economist) put Manila ahead of Jakarta. That's what this thread is about
