Independence has brought you nothing but corruption, death, corruption again, martial law, death, hunger, corruption, revolution, terrorism, rebellion, coups, mutinies, sieges, what else....

I mean, name me one thing that independence has given you that is great? And don't say winning the Miss Universe 4 times.

And what's ironic is that so many Filipinos want to get out of their country. What was it, 10, 11 million Filipinos abroad?

And the country itself is pretty much reliant on other countries anyways which...... destroys the whole reasoning for being independent?

SO to the Filipino people..... why do you say it is better to be a poor independent country than a rich territory of another? Is it history, sentiment, logic?

Rich territory? Of who? America? Along the lines of Puerto Rico perhaps? Just how would Filipino's be better off?

One thing/ Own destiny. Corruption is hardly unique to Philippines. Working abroad either. Filipinos make up the overwhelming majority of sea farers these days.
The world has become increasingly interdependent. Poor government hardly unique to Philippines. I know a number who do approve of the present Right wing President for 'getting tough on crime' supposedly corruption. Time will tell.

Yes but not anymore of course! The Chinese are interested in you though. Didn't your leader said that he wanted your country to be a part of China or something?

Puerto Ricans are better off than you otherwise they would have voted to be independent a long time ago. They never did... why? Oh that's right.... because they don't want to end up like you.

Puerto Rico GDP per capita: $39,763
Puerto Rico HDI: Very High

Ph GDP per capita: $9,538
Ph HDI: Medium

Ah yes, to control one's destiny so that you can run it like hell? Isn't that something your leader a long time ago said?

Ah yes, the "It happens to other peoples too so don't judge me" argument. And no, it's really fudging terrible in your country.

And yes, sure but to have two cities destroyed by sieges in less than 5-6 years? Oh wait.... having cities besieged by terrorists is a normal thing in most countries.

To have rebels that hasn't been quelled for 40 or so years? Oh wait.... having rebels that have lead to tens of thousands of people dead is a normal thing in most countries.

To have terrorists that have been present on your islands since the 90's? Oh wait.... having terrorists that have lead to thousands of people dead is a normal thing in most countries.

You are that typical nationalist that I...... love.

i dont know of any nation who doesnt yearn to be free.

during colonial times, it was a pride to be independent, especially when you fought for it.

this period of disfunction will pass.

the islands of king phillip of spain need to change of the name of the country to something prehispanic preislamic. They need to return back to the pagan roots of garuda like the rajahnate of cebu and butuan

They need to cast off the ways of papalism, the ways of the bedoiun, and communism. Focus on science. They need shed the white savior inferiority complex.

It is better off governing itself. It may not be perfect today and never will be just like any nation but it would all make sense in the future, only time can tell.

This is the same backbone of American ideology, being land of the free like for example when individuals reached 18 years old, they would be getting out of their parents home to be independent to learn life more. The individual may not be as rich as their parents anymore and may struggle financially but it would serve well as it would teach him so many valuable lessons. In time, that person may eventually be richer or not than his parents were depends on the persons choices.

Working on something to earn to send back home is not totally being reliant to other countries. Asking free dole outs all of the time would qualify to that description, in short begging. But Filipinos works in the sweat of their blood and don't ask for mere dole outs, they are two different things.

So to answer your question OP, yes it is better off that way. Name one thing that made you great out of being independent, I can name you more but resilience. You can include sense of responsibility. For one singers and dancers. There's actually so many and I don't want to sound defensive to a poster who seems to be salty.

Rep you.

I wonder if all those areas were under vedic/tamil influence sometime . Indonesia is an Islam majority country but they still perform Indian folklore.
