Beijing offered more than Taiwan in order to switch.
China has flipped Panama and where I live Costa Rica. Just a game in order to have more votes at United Nations.

We got a brand new stadium to switch from Taiwan to China. Taiwan only had given us a nice bridge.
Now China also is bidding on construction projects, bringing in cheap workers then shipping them back when done.

just politics.

This just goes to show how silly the UN has become. Just a place to buy friends.

Your country doesn't have to put up with that temporary imported labor thing, you know. They can write into the contract, that the Chinese have to hire a certain percentage of their labor from the host country. But then, I guess, maybe you wouldn't get a nice bridge or stadium? You may have more leverage than you think. If they want your vote in the UN badly enough, they'll agree to your terms.

China has a lot of economic slowdown and needs to keep people working... Even better if they are part of the 50-odd million men who will never get married

Sad...This reminds us that we live in a reality where money(plus power) talks.

This trend has been ongoing for decades.
The UK in 1950.
The US, Japan and many other large countries switched in the 1970s, other small countries are just following the big ones.

It makes sense actually. China is a behemoth, whereas Taiwan is small. From a business point of view, China is the logical solution.
