Friends went there a few years ago and enjoyed it very much. But not possible for us at this time. Our government’s official advice is to not travel there which means travel insurance cannot be obtained.

I do understand your point. With Iran and Western tensions being so high, no need to get caught up in conflicts. While I'm sure Iran is a beautiful country, there are others nations with similar biomes and topography.
