The first is correct, the second not so much until the Oliver North debacle.

As far as the Tomcats go, the USN decommissioned theirs around ten or so years ago. While its a good airplane it's really no match, especially the model Iran has, for later 4th generation fighters (which the Tomcat actually is not) or the currently being deployed 5th generation aircraft.

Iran's F-14's have been grounded for a long time due to the lack of parts. They will never fly again.

my point is, its only recently that the US was allied with these countries.

it was during the Carter Admin that the mullahs kicked out the Sha, wasnt it?

and Reagan succeeded Carter

then they sold arms to Saddam to defeat the Mullahs

to fund the Contras, the Reagan err North secretly sold arms to the mullahs

then Saddam invaded Kuwait..so he got kicked in the butt

its a complicated world..your friend today maybe your enemy tomorrow (Japan? Germany?)
