The Philippines isn't that bad off right now. The economy is doing quite well with arguably the best growth in Southeast Asia. Tourism numbers are doing fine, too.
“I prefer a government run like hell by Filipinos to a government run like heaven by Americans. Because, however bad a Filipino government might be, we can always change it.” - Manuel L. Quezon
There is a qualifier there though. Perhaps the latest changes may mean a long term difference but who knows.
i dont agree with that. the elite then, just like now, just could not rob the Filipinos if somebody can override them.
the elite then and now just dont want someone is minding them to behave.
its not that i dont want Phl to be independent. i want her to be independent, strong and prosperous.
but if it remained a commonwealth, the declaration of ML and the resulting thievery wouldnt have happened. Guam, PR dont have carte blanche to do as they wish.
when Quezon espoused that gibberish, do you think he was thinking of the welfare of the people/Phl or only their self-interest?
