WWII ended over 60 years ago. Japan started the Pacific War and would not surrender until the use of the Atomic bombs. You’re citing the cruelty of the US but never mention Pearl Harbor, the Bataan Death March, the Rape of Nanking or any of the atrocities committed by Japan.
There is a similar precedent. In AD 645 when Japan implemented the Taika Reform, it also suffered a disastrous defeat by China at the Battle of Baekgang (Hakusonko) in AD 663. After the defeat, Japan realized that Tang China was more superior in term of military, technology and culture to Japan. So it accelerated learning from China by sending 19 missions (not a small feat given the difficulty of navigation) to China.
This really is a silly topic, by a user that is banned, I assume for trolling.
But a few things worth mentioning:
a.) The justification for the atomic bomb deserves it's own thread of course. In summary, it's been discussed many times in the history forum and the general overwhelming consensus is it was clearly justified and, in fact, not only saved numerous allied lives but also Japanese lives regarding the option for an invasion of Japan.
b.) Japanese were particularly brutal in the war. The number of Japanese civilians killed in WWII pale in comparison to the millions that Japanese murdered during it's occupation of other Asian countries.
c.) The US was particularly magnanimous in victory, helping Japan rebuild the nation into the successful democracy it is today.
d.) Likewise, Japan found a good ally in the US in regards to the expanding ideology of communism in China and Russia during the cold war and the threats from those countries.
e.) Japan is not under the shadow of anyone obviously. The are an independent nation free to carry on it's own course. The US has trade and defense partnerships with Japan. Japan also wishes, per its own perogative, to stay aligned with the US to counter the growing power of China.

If Japan had had Americanism rammed down their throats, one presumes it would now be an English-speaking, multicultural, multi-ethnic, Christian republic instead of a Japenese-speaking, ethnically/culturally monolithic, Shinto/Buddhist, constitutional monarchy. For an utterly defeated and conquered nation, Japan managed to emerge with much of its culture and institutions intact.
Agreed. I might add that the U.S. treated Japan much better than Japan had treated the countries it had conquered.
The argument presented by the YouTube comment fails spectacularly when taken to its logical conclusion. Why would any nation affected by the Japanese be favourable towards it?

Just finished reading Killing the Rising Sun last night. No matter what you think of the politics of the author, his Killing series are well researched and well written. It really helped me understand why so many WWII veterans absolutely refuse to purchase anything manufactured in Japan, even to this day.

That’s why an American can go to Viet Nam today and be treated like an honored guest even by former communists.
Nothing, including dropping nukes on civilian populations, the hallucination fueled War About Nothing in Iraq, drone lynchings, or the unending political circuses in America appear to be denting Hollywood’s grip on the imaginations of the world’s collateral damagees.

It's everywhere. So Japan got it's revenge. In fact I think Anime caused the "hullucination fueled War about Nothing" and the drones that somehow lynched people, yeah that's it.
