Any other country would've passed laws to prevent secession.

They want their version of the US Patriot Act.

I wonder just which country anywhere around the world, would not take some form of action if an area under its sphere of influence, or as in this case an integral part of the nation, when such chaos finds a footing?

Remember few, reject China's ownership of HK. The once expected Chinese imposition over all HK's affairs, on British departure, that in preceding years, drove hundreds of thousands to seek refuge in other countries, which in turn saw many return after acquiring other passports, after witnessing HK's capitalistic credentials remained largely intact.

I think the Mainland Chinese are much more gullible and easily manipulated by the government controlled media. Xi and his propaganda dept have done a glorious job in spreading their Anti-West message over the past few years it's almost scary. China is taking pages from Mao's day's which is rather concerning to say the least.

So yeah, to protest being under this new authoritarian force lead by Xi, I might protest too, regardless of what it does to the economy.

are you really in china? have you gone into walmart/costco, mcdonalds or starbucks to see how anti west they are by the government controlled media?

in many ways, the firewall is for protecting american businesses, so the chinese don't know that americans hate them while trying to make money from them. That way, the gullible mainland chinese inside the firewall still have no problem buying american brands and drinking coca cola

My thoughts exactly. The more those rioters riot, the more China will tighten their grip on them. Hong Kong is slowly digging their own grave.

American's don't hate Chinese. You've said this in many different posts and your just trying to stir the pot.

Obviously your a Chinese living in the U.S. of somewhere overseas and aren't really in touch with what's now going on in China with the anti-U.S. and anti-West propaganda that many Chinese are buying into.

This is an absolutely bizarre inversion of reality.

As we have seen in various countries with the virus, it doesn't take much negative sentiment towards China, to impact on the well being of Chinese ethnic people on a street level , be that USA, Australia, UK.

Propaganda and manipulation works on all sides in one form or another. Obviously anti Chinese messaging is going to be manipulated by authorities and will impact on local sentiment to varying degrees as it will vice versa.

There are people who are racist and people who aren't. But most Americans hate China is true. Most people in China have no negative feeling when thinking about the US until recent years, Trump is blamed for the deterioration of the relation.

Most Chinese believe it is Trump who started the dislike of the other country in the US-China relations, not China. For example, China doesn't want the trade war but Trump started it. Anti US in China is a normal reaction when the US is increasing anti China.

yeah, most americans don't hate the Chinese until this year after the politicians are trying to shift blame of the virus. I'm sure things is going to go back to normal after the election like it always does.

it's also a good thing that china has a firewall so most of the Chinese netizens doesn't know what the American people/government are saying about them/their government. This way, the American businesses in china doesn't need to suffer whenever the American government is blaming the Chinese for one thing or another.
