I think the naive HK protesters will realize life isn't a story book, good doesn't win in the end. Might defines right. HK will either destroy itself economically or the Chinese government will go in and violently put them down. The rest of the world will express their condolences but will do nothing.
Who would've thought, the biggest victim of this whole fiasco so far is the NBA....
The biggest losers will be the Chinese basketball fans who don't have the chance to watch NBA games for the next five years (but I expect both sides will come to terms soon).
The winner will be the demonstrators in Hong Kong. It shows how China likes to bully others even in US to conform to their world view. There will be more sympathizers to Hong Kong's cause.
Hong kong is like a spoiled child. the more they are given, the worse they behave. they did not have any problem with their british colonist and they did not ask democracy. Now they do not pay tax to china, they are given subsidized water and food from china and they behave like this?

But mainland Chinese and overseas Chinese do not really support the protest.
Even ethnic Chinese in southeast Asia do not support them.
