This is probably mostly only a thing within North America, but I cannot believe how many people say something to the effect of 'Yeah, it's crazy how crowded India is, and then they have this crazy city of Dubai!'
I noticed this after telling some peers about a recent trip to India, and I swear about half of them had that exact reaction. Obviously they are most likely confusing Dubai with Mumbai, but the tone suggests they are surprised that a city as modern as Dubai can exist *if it did* in India. But still, Mumbai isn't exactly glamorous on the world stage so it becomes a bit confusing to me why this mistake seems so common. I could understand if both Mumbai and Dubai were as comparable as Abu Dhabi and Dubai, but that simply isn't true.
Dunbai is not in India? Now you are confusing me! Quite a few computer programmers in my company seem to come from the United Emirates of Dunbai, India LOL
I never heard of that only you say something like that. May be you thought Dubai is in India. But I have seen that sort of things on male profile, destination Sacramento- Australia, Dahran- Los Angele's somethings like that that is all I have experienced. But thank you for the laugh.
lack of knowledge of basic geography is expected from Americans.
How many American know London, UK is more northern than North Dakota? How many can point out roughly where Hawaii is on the map? How many know Mexico is not in South America? How many know Canada or Australia's capital city? How many have a very rough idea of Brazil's population?

Anyone else agree?
Yes, I am surprised.
Lived there nearly three years and met many wonderful Indian people. Their kindness and patience is almost "criminal" - for someone who is raised in eastern europe i found their culture extremely different (in a better way), compared to what i was used to.
All the buildings, skyscrapers, condos, shopping malls were built by Indians. All the taxi drivers, housekeeping staff (except for the harassed pretty Filapina ones), security guards, garbage collectors, etc. are Indians.

I don't think the people who think that Dubai is in India are going to be the same people who understand its migrant demographics.
