Thanks, but this still doesn't answer my question as the article is about charges being brought against people for attacks that occurred years ago in 2015 and 2016. I wonder if things are still out of control in Bangladesh or whether things have calmed down considerably.

US state department warnings regarding travel, take it for what it is, some think state department warnings are overblown:
https://travel.state.gov/content/tra...-advisory.html

And then there is this:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tourism_in_Bangladesh

Beyond what you can find via google search, you have to find I guess someone that has traveled there. I have not but I have been around the region, and if it's like my experiences in India, Nepal, Cambodia, even Thailand to a certain degree (although that is much more developed) it's going to be a 3rd world cesspool - dirty, impovershed, lack of logistics for travel, conflict/war zones within the country, lack of logistics for anything, lack of infrastructure for anything working according to western standards. But, there is hidden beauty everywhere, how willing and capable are you for looking for it without the proper tourist infrastructure is what you have to ask yourself?

Every feedback I've heard is that it's an utter dump.

My family is from Bangladesh & we never go to Dhaka or anywhere in Bangladesh unless we have someone local with us. Of course my sibling & I don’t speak good Bengali and that’s part of the reason. At the airport I have often met nonBengali ppl, often engineers, who are in Dhaka for business trip. Never heard anyone complain. Dhaka has area for expats community.

Find a tour guide and u will be fine. U could go there n have your hotel give u a tour guide. But better call the hotel first n set it up. It’s different, very busy n lot going on. That’s why tour guide will help. I should be able to find local university student willing to be ur guide for few days. Outside of Dhaka, especially the coastal area is nice n Very tourist friendly
