Whoever said this does not know their history. Spain colonized the Philippines and stayed for almost 400 years. This is where Philippine culture is taken from. Unfortunately , whatever Spain imparted to Filipinos adversely affected Filipinos. Filipinos in general are timid - not assertive. This is from years of being treated like slaves and servants of Spaniards. Very few became educated. All Spain did was to try to convert convert Filipinos to Catholicism. Not educate them. Look at what Spanish conquistadors did along their path like in South America. Many of these countries are impoverished. Many in their population remain ignorant and superstitious.

The US in a way saved the Philippines from Spain. At least they introduced education to the country. Unfortunately, 400 years under Spain made this transition difficult even to this day. Filipinos still carry their timidity wherever they go. Many migrate to other countries like the US but they stay away from involvement with their community. All they do is socialize among each other. They don't get involved in politics nor in improving their community. They don't read nor inform themselves with current events and are easily swayed by misinformation especially when it comes to politics.

A caveat here that the OP was identified as a Russian troll (per a moderator comment in another thread where they traced his IP) and subsequently banned.

Russian troll? Doesn't really matter. It's a good topic regardless.

I thought it had no effect whatsoever " Philipines will stay that way "

America is a rich country certainly would have built the Philippines when their colonized that country but just because the Philippines was not the target country they wanted

No it isn't. The OP "topic" is nonsense when you read the original post, the OPs only motive was to elicit an emotional response and to sew discord.
But fortunately the users dismissed his premise pretty quickly (as you did) and over 5 pages have developed subtopics that invite good discussion. I suspect that's the only reason the mods haven't deleted this thread. I always enjoy the historical topics.

Not clear on what you are saying. What is a target country? The US is not in the habit building up a country. They did what was necessary and that is introduce education. They have also given the Philippines millions in aid. It is up to the people of that country to use it to improve themselves. The problem with the Philippines is it has too much baggage that they acquired from spanish colonization. The disparity between rich and poor is wide. Too much ignorance and superstition. Till now, they are controlled by and afraid of the catholic church. The fear mongering of the church have made Filipinos dependent on the church. Again, ignorance and superstition. Plus, hypocritical. Filipinos like to say they are religious and god fearing but immorality and adultery is rampant.

This has not benefitted them whatsoever. For the Philippines to progress, they need to shake off this dependence on the church.

And Filipinos has always been proud of its colonialists, especially Spain ? or isn't it ?
anyone in this world will say that the invaders are still colonizers and those who are colonized are considered despicable and poor ... and those who are considered poor and despised races are still proud of their own identity

Blaming the church or Catholicism for poverty does not compute, Malta and Switzerland are Catholic majority countries yet they are rich. It's not due to the church.

It is when you follow them blindly. Especially with regards to birth control which the church opposes. The Philippines is extremely over populated. Over population results in to depletion of resources which results into poverty, crime and corruption. The Philippines largest product is people (workers). Not exactly something to be proud of. Look at Japan and Korea. Like the Philippines, both went thru war and were devastated. But look at them now. They have been producing major products (automobiles, appliances and electronics).

Plus like I said, 400 years under Spain did not help. Spain did not educate the people. They put the fear of God in to the indigents instead. Filipinos find it convenient to leave it at that and not strive to do better.

It may be too late but one of the first things the Philippines needs to do is control birth.
