another possibility, being "macho" or tough guy is not part of the culture of some asian groups
so being feminine is not looked down on as much
some cultures are so worried about being the "tough guy" or macho man causes more fighting & violence, some say their culture wouldnt let them back down, so they end up having to prove themselves.
and would tend to have more unacceptance to feminine males.
I think it’s also prevalent in the Philippines despite the country’s almost universal Catholicism. I’m aware of many families there that have she male family members without any apparent prejudice.
I find it to be unusual, that of all countries, and of all countries in SE Asia, only Thailand has this culture in such a prominent way. Not only is it tolerated, it seems to have become an "attraction" for the country.
Is there a higher % of this demographic group in Thailand, or are those in other countries just hiding? They are much more mainstream than any other country; I suppose there is no dispute about that? What led to this phenomenon? And what do locals think about this?
No. Understand the tourist industry is extremely important to the Thai economy.
In Bangkok which is the capital city of Thailand you can find clubs or bars that will cater to whatever it is you're looking for.
Get away from the tourist areas and the country is completely different.

It's commonly seen in the Philippines too. Cambodia as well.

Yes but not in regard to she-male, you find them all over! even in Chiangmai or Hatyai in the south! I was served by a she-male crew on an airline from Chiangmai to Bangkok! so it is not true what you just said, they have role in society not just for an object for tourist entertainment! Even a lesbian is in Thai government! This is most likely not gonna happen in The Philippines government or Malaysian!
Thailand is just more open towards LGBTQ+ community!

"government" is a broad term, what level are you talking about? There are certainly openly LGBTQ in different levels of government in the Philippines, including Congress.
Is Thailand a little more gay friendly than the Philippines? Maybe. But it's just splitting hairs. A gay traveler will do just fine in either country.

You are right but level of acceptance are totally different between the 2 countries! As of July 2020, the Thai Cabinet approved a new draft of the bill. It will now be introduced a bill to legalize same-sex marriage. This might not happen anytime soon in the Philippines or Malaysia. But of course, gay travellers will be fine in these countries

Yep, I'd say Philippines is pretty similar to Thailand. They even have gay teen beauty pageants in small towns throughout the Philippines. It's very common.
