It is amazing how the entire east Asia coast (not south east asia) was united under one government for so long.

How is China so homogeneous, shouldn't there be more groups than just Han Chinese?

I think the empires never really ended because everyone was Han, but why weren't things more regionally fractured? Like in Europe or Africa?

Rome fell apart because of different cultures, the Persian empire fell apart because of different cultures, etc.

Yet China is a massive bloc of land covering most of east Asia and it is just one people for so long. How? Why?

They don’t have a 2 party system and dissent ends at 3 am when there is a knock on your door

Chinese are not homogeneous, there are at least 53 minorities in China,we hear about the large groups like the Uighurs,Mongolians,Manchurians and Tibetans, but there are more.
Even among the HANS,there are those in the south, east, west and north, with local dialects, cuisine and customs.
Central China has been invaded, hence the Great Wall, the Mongolians invaded Central China and established the Yuan Dynasty, the Manchurians established the Qing Dynasty.

Back then the emperor often sent troops to conquer the folks in the outlying area like the New Territory, thats where the Uighurs are the majority.
After overthrowing the Qing dynasty, the Republic elected a president, there is never a 2 party system.
What happens in China prior to the Republic is that one dynasty fell usually due to famine and drought and the rebels stormed the palace, killed the emperor and established a new Dynasty.

The advantage of having one party is you dont have to recount the votes !!

What are you saying, 92% of China is Han Chinese: https://guides.lib.unc.edu/china_eth...e%20culture%22.

That is how they have been united for thousands of years.

Why is China so different in this regard than the middle east, Europe, and Africa?

But the current government has only been in power since 1949. Before that there was the Republic of China, territories held by warlords, and of course centuries long dynasties.

Africa has many different kingdoms and TRIBES,I am not familiar with African history,of course there is Egypt.
Europe was Danish Empire, the Austrain Hungarian Empire, then Bismark took the German states and turned it into Germany, ditto Italy, latest example is USSR.
There is CENTRAL China and then after the republic was established they include Tibet,Mongolia and New Territory,I dont know what your question is?
Africa ,Europe are continents,China is a country.l

Hui means Muslim/Islam ,those who live in the outskirt many are Muslim,it is a religion, they could be Uighur or other ethnic groups

I think she is asking why Central China with Hans majority stays together for so long>
It was split up Tsung dynasty becomes North Tsung and South Tsung, with capitals in Peking and Canton.
There is also the Tai Ping REBELLION,cant recall how they call it,they were strong enough to take cover a large area, the leader claimed he is the brother of Jesus Christ?

Oh no. There have been times when China split itself up into different warring states like a porcelain bowl breaking to pieces (no pun intended). It had the Warring States Period where 7 different kingdoms pitted against each other until Qin Shi Huang of the State of Qin, whom "China" is named after, conquered and united all of the kingdoms under one crown. Qin Shi Huang as you know also ordered the Great Wall to be built at enormous cost of human lives and capital. Then after centuries of unification under the Qin and Han Dynasties, China broke apart again into the Three Kingdoms, the history of which has been memorialized in the great epic the Romance of the Three Kingdoms written by Luo Guanzhong. Other periods of disunification include the Northern and Southern Dynasties and Five Dynasties Period during which successive rulers tried to establish unified rule but often to no avail. At times foreign invaders threatened or attacked and thereby forcing rulers to relocate the capital elsewhere than Beijing. These periods did not last just 1-2 years, some lasted for decades, even centuries. Those who think the Chinese have always been united do not know Chinese history. The People's Republic of China is only 71 years old, the Republic of China only 109 of which it only existed for 38 years on the Mainland before removing to Taiwan Island and those 38 years were often marked by disunity. That is miniscule compared to the centuries of dynasties that preceded the Republic and even the 2+ centuries that America has been united. We don't know how long this current realm will last either.

Han China isn't even as homogenous as you think. The Chinese beginning in the Qin Dynasty but especially during the Han and Song Dynasties, penetrated south and subjugated the local Min and Yue peoples to their rule to the point that the local peoples assimilated and adopted Chinese culture as their own culture. That is why the Cantonese (Yue), Fukienese (Min), Taiwanese (mostly Min extract), Hunanese, etc. don't look like Northern Chinese and sometimes retain customs that are not shared with their northern brethren. Yet other than some Taiwanese, most others pretty much consider themselves ethnic Chinese and not as some conquered people. Even the Kejia (the Hakka) whom most Sinologists believe were actually latecomers from the North to the South do not consider themselves that much different from all other Chinese even if they retain unique customs and in my opinion break their customs along caste lines. Then you wonder why China has been united for so long and why do the Chinese value unity like pure gold. Well, it stems from the age old belief that being united, the country is much stronger and more prosperous than if everyone broke up into their own states and fought each other for senseless purposes. The Chinese are a very proud people who call their nation Zhongguo (the Middle Kingdom) for a good reason and that is because only united as the one true kingdom among all barbarians can they retain their status as the center of East Asia.
