I don't know about poverty stricken

I'd rather have it split into 3 kingdoms and a free tibet and possibly free hong kong and no nukes

On xinjiang independence, it would depend if they convert back to buddhism or tengrism or godlessness.

DOn't want another afghanistan.

I guess no one really likes godless communists or facists
I completely disagree with the validity of that poll. SE Asia wants the US and the international community present in their lives. But they are not about to choose the US over China. As proved by our debacle in Vietnam and the pull out in Syria, the US will give up if faced with prolonged war they initiated. But SE Asia sits in the shadow of China with China controlling the Mekong River. There is no way SE Asia would advocate for a SE Asia without friendship with China

I hate communism as much as the next person but with mainland China, you really need a totalitarian government. It is too tumultuous of a country (look at its history) and any weak governments will always end up overthrown and replaced.

Yes, one gives up a lot of personal freedom but in exchange, you get more political stability.

Of course that is a topic of discussion on another thread.

well that's a rare opinion in an us forum.

there really isn't much communism left in mainland china now a days, it's socialism with big corps held in check similar to what we have here.

the level of personal freedom is less for sure, but that also helped in handling covid vs the western countries where personal freedom is placed above society benefits

I don’t believe big corporations are held in check anymore in the US. I consider the US to be a Corporate Oligarchy and the US government is bought and paid for and beholden to those corporations interests.

I don’t know about China, but I assume the CCP is still in charge?

CCP is a huge party with 90 million members. So there are different opinions, interests and camps within the party. Sometimes the fight within the party can be quite intense.

Some sectors of the economy are controlled by state-owned corporations, such as power supply, petroleum, and transportations. Others are dominated by privately owned companies, such as internet/IT. The corporations have a relatively small impact on politics.

Are you sure?
Southeast Asians are culturally more similar to Indians and Chinese than Americans.
Live animals in wet markets in southeast asia are just as common as in India and China, unlike the west.
Who cares foreigners like wet markets or not?
They are mainly for the locals to shop, not tourist attractions.

No one's talking about wet markets here, and somehow I don't think that people in Vietnam or India are saying, "yeah we keep having territorial disputes, human trafficking issues, and historical and current animosities but yeah! They have wet markets too! We are brothers! Get out, arrogant foreigners!!" Lol. What a ridiculous thing to mention.
