Trying to find official guidance but unfortunately there’s nothing explicit I was able to dig up. Is it possible for a US citizen to travel to mainland China right now and what are the requirements? Just need a couple of days there.

But there is an additional requirement here - you state you are going for business. You need a business visa. You have one right?
If you don't have one then that brings a whole new list of requirements and paperwork.

Haha, that's why I'd like to find explicit guidance to minimize the chances of that happening
You won't get detained. Hundreds of thousands of American's travel there on business or leisure every year, put your TV-based cold war fears to rest. I travel there a couple times a year (before China gave us Covid).
However there are some security measures you should be careful of if your business is in a high-tech industry.
You'll need a business visa and as of right now, for the most part, they aren't giving them out (they aren't giving out tourist visas at all and even family visas are harder to get). If you had one before, and you can make the case that you are returning to finish a project that you were unable to due to COVID, then they may let you back in if you get the Sinovac COVID vaccine - China does not currently recognize Western ones and most likely won't for awhile as a matter of national pride.
You would also need to quarantine for 2 weeks once you're here... In short, I don't think it's feasible to pop in for a couple days and leave at the moment.
