, maybe the 70s. Travelers heard about it long before they got to Singapore.
Malaysian Independence holiday is on August 31st. Why did Singapore separate from Malaysia on the same exact calendar month on August 9th? Almost appears overly rebellious. And wow! Singapore compared to Indonesia economic wealth couldn't go further from respective polar opposites. $50,000+ in relation to only $4,000. Malaysia is almost ideal right around $10,000 to $20,000. Singapore's own Golden Mosque landmarks are from Malaysia. Some of the best buildings. Although, Singapore resembles Hong Kong the most compared to Kuala Lumpur or Jakarta.
Singapore got kicked out of Malaysia for racial reasons. Was certainly not a choice.
