Asian food is expensive in Canada comparing with in HK and elsewhere in East and Southeast Asia. All things in HK, Macau, Taiwan and Mainland China are cheaper than Canada except buying or renting properties. Can't buy cheap durians, pineapples, bananas, coconuts, fish, chicken and rice in Canada.

If you hate driving and parking, is ok with using fast public transport, HK is the place.
And yet somehow, Vancouver is <30% Chinese and close to 50% Asian...

I'd take HK. Even with the PRC expanding its influence, it's still one of my favorite cities and for my personal situation, would offer a good balance or compromise should we decide that we need to return to the Sinosphere someday. The COL is crazy of course but I would prefer it to Miami and basically every mainland city overall.

There are always some Chinese or Asians who like Canada and other western countries more than Asia, and a higher number of people who are not interested to move to another country. There are always some asians who marry westerners, while most are not interested.

Most of the successful foreigners in HK don't plan to leave.
The people with strong political opinions and not interested in money and other things HK offer want to leave the most. Few of these people are foreigners living in HK. Almost all protestors arrested are HK Chinese, including some Chinese with western passports, very few are foreigners. The foreigners in HK are just not interested in protests and politics. They are in HK for other reasons. Higher income, lower taxes, companies paying for their rent and children's education, the convenience, the cheap domestic helpers, the cheap and tasty food and shopping, like asian cultures, the various asian women if the foreigners are men, the white privilege they have so they are not really discriminated, can use english without the need to learn new language.

But you also hear many westerners complaining about the rudeness, lack of patience, direct ways of expression, lack of smiles, bad qualities of food compared with meat and veggies from the west etc. For western women, they complain about lack of suitable men and fellow western men in HK like to date asian women instead of them.
