If one is Jewish and comes to Israel as an immigrant, is a male & under the age of 30, they can be drafted into the Israeli army for a certain period of time. (The length depends on exactly how long they are when they arrive.) A male immigrant over the age of 30 will just have to do basic military training and yearly military reserve duty like all healthy Israeli male citizens. I believe that a female immigrant doesn't have join the military if she is over 20 or 21 (I am not sure the exact age but it is much lower than for a male.)
