Well what city do YOU prefer to live in? i hate chinese food so idk if i could live in Hong Kong. but if they have mexican and italian restaruants i may consider that. So your vote is???
As far as I know Hong Kong has a diverse cuisine and you can eat plenty of western food there (just like in Japan). I doubt every Hong Konger just eats chinese food everyday. It's a global cosmopolitan city.

It's likely that you've only eaten American Chinese food though which is usually much saltier and more oily with a far smaller variety of spices used. Also, Hong Kong has a huge variety of food available.
I pick Los Angeles anyhow with the weather and family being the kickers.
i dont eat american Chinese. but considering just because its made anywhere other than China doesnt make it less chinese.
Well, that's actually not true since people are different all over the world and a business has to change its model to fit different places. Many of the chinese restaurants in the US, especially those that are not serving a mostly Chinese clientele, have heavily modified the food such that they now serve, either through inertia or still-ongoing conditions, a kind of canon of American Chinese food. I agree that it doesn't have to taste different just because it's not in China (since there is a lot of very "authentic" Chinese restaurants in southern California and various other parts of the US), but neither do patrons have to like authentic Chinese food nor do they have to ensure a Chinese restaurant serving authentic Chinese food survives as opposed to one that serves heavily modified Chinese food.
