Chinese police freed 33 slave laborers who were held in a brick factory and tortured with electric shocks when they disobeyed their masters, The (London) Times reported Monday.
The brutal conditions at the kiln -- the latest to be exposed in a series of rural slavery scandals -- came to light when a man escaped and told police.
The farmer, known only as Mr. Song, made his way from the dirt-poor, coal-producing Shanxi province in northwestern China to a city farther east, where he hoped to earn more to feed his family back home.
The moment that he arrived at Shijiazhuang railway station April 17, he was approached by a stranger and offered a job.
Instead of the promised employment, Song found himself working as a slave with 33 other men at the brick kiln.
And how many thousands of container loads from China are unloaded at US ports every day? Toxic drywall that kills! Toxic toys that poison children! Hospital supplies that kill babies! This is akin to the "blood diamonds" from the diamond mines of Africa.

So is it a discussion on this particular story that you're seeking, or are you just attempting to just a "crap on China" type of thread?

The first option is fine -- the second will disappear rather quickly.

Is it necessary for me to justify the posting of a thread? I posted a story concerning the maltreatment of workers in China. Do you have a vested interest in the treatment of workers in China?

In fact it is necessary to justify the posting of a thread if it appears that thread is a troll rather than a sincere attempt at discussion.

Vested interest in the treatment of Chinese workers? Nope, just a vested interest in the rules of City Data forums being adhered to.
