I have had a problem with christians coming to my door and leaving their material hanging from my door knob. For a while they would come ring the bell, and try to talk, I would always return the material and nicely tell them I did not follow their faith and to remove me from their list. This had been all it took for the JW, and Mormons. They have never been back, but these Baptist return almost every weekend, now just hanging their trash on my door, and leaving. I have caught them once and made them take their proselytizing material back; again asking them to take me off their list. I would get better results asking the wind to stop blowing.
What have other non religious people done to stop the door knockers from bothering them short of painting a pentagram in my circle drive? I was annoyed after the 2nd visit; now with the number in double digits I am ready to get a restraining order against them. They can’t read the NO Soliciting signs, don’t respect my request to remove me from their list, and are even a bit of a smart A_s_s when I tell them we are not interested.
Why bother answering your door when they show up. Don't you have a window or a peep hole?
Try a no trespassing sign rather then the no soliciting sign. Pepper spray is usually pretty convincing if someone refuses to leave on the first request.
I'm wondering about inviting them in to share your views with them. Do you think that would work? We haven't had this problem yet. I'm curious what has worked for others.
Just read Ashville's response. Yes! Calling and confronting the pastor is an EXCELLENT idea!! That should work.

Actually George, I have been using the same method for the last ten years and it works like a charm.---Two Words -----German Shepherd. He is very large and dark, he is not mean but he ALWAYS announces visitors before they get to the door. Kinda like a doorbell that works from a distance. Most of the time, all they have to do is hear his loud deep growlly bark and they don't even get on the porch. If you'd like to borrow him......
I was raised in a baptist household... We went "soul-winning." If they're anything like the baptists i was raised in, they probably talk about your house and think that god has anointed them to "save" you. I'd call the cops, especially if you have a no trespassing/soliciting sign.. I don't know if they could do anything, but maybe. Call the minister and tell him that your home is off-limits or you'll take them to court. That usually scares 'em off..
I finally got them to leave me alone by opening the door and using profanity every other word or so... makes them super uncomfortable. Like you, I had a few different denominations showing up 2 or 3 times in a weekend and it got to the point where I was going to do something really stupid. I also have a 'no soliciting' sign AND a 'no proselytizing' sign next to my front door and on the fence leading up to it. All have been ignored.
Also, take a copy of the Watchtower, draw a pentagram on it and tape it to your door.
Electrify the gate by throwing a switch as you see them approaching.
