I want to take a minute to share womthing with you. Last Week, we lost one of our dearest family members and greatest friends in my Uncle who lived to the age of 79 in spite of having "incurable" cancer 14 years before (which he had beaten)
He was a intellectual, eccentric, educated. He taught Psychology and was a minister.
He could make a room smile just by walking in it. He was a well loved and well repected man.
His funeral was attended by Hundreds of friends family and associates. What struck me is that this man through his wit and wisdom touched the lives deeply of so many people. Certainly everyone there has stories to tell. And they will tell and impart these stories to others with the hope that a sense of kindness and charity will persevere through the teachings.
And over the years, I will impart my wisdom and stories to my children and friends, that they too can learn from what my uncle taught me. At some point, in a hundred or so years, after these stories are handed down, someone may assemble a volume or a writing based on them. They will be complete with miracles, like the time he walked on water (Well, not exaclty, he jumped in a pool to save a child BUT he moved so fast it was LIKE he was running on water,_ or stories about his generosity and charity. like the time he cured a begger (Actually he set in path a string of events that got the guy off the streets, into school, and working to this day) etc. He was the most kind and generous man I ever knew.
He will live on with us, because we learned from him and will endeavor to continue his example of charity, scholarship and love. Of course, 3oo years from now, it will be said that he still lives amongst us, that he somehow defeated death as his ideals live on and are passed down through the ages. Stories of his ressuraction and immentnet return will probably follow that.
After all, is that not how legends are born ? ? ?
I second that, and it could well be how some legends are born. One knows how stories are "improved" in the retelling, especially when they can be applied to other purposes.
Well, that was my point. Thanks for acknowledging it. BTW my uncle was a great man, but he would have been offended at the mere thought of being called a "Messiah" But his daily teachings of helping others, and his generosity (I am amazed at how generous he was) IS a valid lesson we can all learn.
I started wondering though, as the hundreds and I mean HUNDREDS of people attended his service and visitation, what would happen if we all got together and started telling our stories of things we learned from this man. And when we tell these stories to our kids, what if somehow THEY learn it too, and they teach their kids and so on. Nothing wrong with that. But a hundred or so years down the line, those stories could change a little, such is the oral tradition, and that is how legends are born. Just a thought.
I'd just write this off as a typo, it's just "a mess I say, and misspelled at that.
