I live in northern Utah. Religious community, I would certainly say so.

It actually doesn't bother me a bit being surrounded by the majority LDS. I don't go out of my way to announce my different thoughts. If they press me (truly this doesn't happen often) I tend to either ignore them or give them a 1000 yard stare. If they persist, I tell them I have different, private thoughts on the issue which I do not wish to debate.

At that point, they tend to wish me well and leave me alone.

Just my experience.

One can always attack their reason (not that difficult...... ) as I told one that was really pushing his invisible friend, I simply told him I was a god fearing atheist and walked off as he stood there in stunned silence. I think I crashed his operating system

I grew up outside of Los Angeles and then lived in NYC. We just moved to a house a little outside of NYC. It's been really tough being the only atheist in these cities.

All of you in very religious areas who have it tough - I feel for you! Come to New York - where heathens abound!
