And I am hoping you and your wife stay safe as well. I am glad she is cancer free. That is great news.

I decided not to attend the convention.
Partly because of covid, the rest because of inflation. I am not up for spending the money on something that might seem fun at the time, then later, decide that I want to do something else and have NO MONEY for it. The cost , gas prices if I drive, vs airline and uber if I do not , plus hotel, plus meals, plus convention fees.

Maybe next year.

Yes, I have had all my shots, so that is not as much of a concern. My Old lady though suffered from long covid. She recently saw an ear specialist, a year later, who asked if she had covid, and mentioned that he is seeing a lot of new onset tinnitus in people who had long haul covid symptoms as she did. She was hospitalized in Feb of last year, and it was not until at least the Fall that she stopped having long term symptoms. We finally sent the Oxygen compressor and tank back in October.

I work still in the medical field, I have seen a few recent concerns about Covid, I won't get into the whole thing other than to say EVERYONE stay safe as most of you are doing. This sadly is not over yet.

So glad you made the safe choice, KingCat. Sorry your wife had to suffer the long Covid. It is a nasty and unpredictable virus. Stay safe.

That's good news about your wife being cancer-free. Yes, COVID isn't going away anytime soon, so stay safe.

So, yeah ... hello.

Except everyone already knows me. I'm too infamous.
Hi, Shirina. Can anyone really be too infamous?

My wife & I wear our masks when out for a walk on the recreation trail behind our house. It is supposed to be safe outdoors, and I mostly agree with that, but we do it mainly for the huffing & puffing passers-by that are jogging or biking. I figure if I can smell their BO / feel the breeze as they pass, I can breathe in whatever viruses they might be shedding.

Yesterday a guy passed us on his bike while talking on his phone. He stated he had "tested positive but I have no symptoms". He was smiling and seemed not to have a care in the world (for himself, or anyone else). I am glad we were masked.

Last night there was a party in the graduate student apartments behind us, over 100 people pressed together, not a mask in sight, even after the police arrived and started carding them and they went inside.

That is scary.

I have been looking at the data in regards to what is happening in Europe and Asia. For some reason, maybe because I read NEJM or because I work in a medical related field, friends and family are often calling asking what I know/predict/opinion
I usually refer them to what the CDC is saying in regards to safety, but I am cautioning people that this is far from over as evidenced by the outbreaks in other nations of variants which have not yet been seen in the US.

SO, While England suffers today, America will tomorrow. And the reverse can be true as well.

Super Spreader events can occur, and will sadly happen. I hope that next year I can attend the Atheist convention. Or the Star Trek Convention even.
But for now, I will stay here. At least I had fun attending the online convention last year.

Yeah scary for us, too; that parking lot is probably about 75 feet east of us but I could smell the cigarette smoke in our yard. That is particulates coming out of their lungs and into mine. I have my doubts that even outdoor exposure is uniformly as benign as we are led to believe. Much depends on variables we don't control -- the exact kinds of particulates and how much time they have to disperse.

What do you call a salad with a mixture of diced cucumbers, tomatoes, onions, cilantro, or parsley with olive oil, lemon dressing, and sea salt?

This salad is one of my favorite dishes, and I learned about it on city-data forums. I did not know until later that the salad has some geopolitical and perhaps religious affiliation.

No idea but it sounds delicious. I'd throw in some chick peas for protein.

Thanks for reviving the chat thread. It's been a while.
