attack or critique?
those sentiments are conveyed on a regular basis by posters on the forum who self-identify as "atheist"

there is no such thing as "default position" for beliefs, beyond atheists lack belief in god, and theists have belief in god.
for every "some theists" believe this, we can trot out "some atheists" believe this.
happy to oblige. bring it.
how about this for starters on the "some atheists believe this"
attack or critique?

"I do think the human race would do far better without religion." [annihilation much?]

"science is what enables us to understand the universe and supernatural beliefs are basically nonsense. So yes I think religion should end. Why should people continue to believe in things that have no proof or evidence? Religion has probably outlived whatever usefulness it once had." [another for end religion altogether. intolerance for those with different views seems to be a theme.]

"human learning would be accelerated by the abandonment of religion, because religions have the overtone of suppressing curiosity, and therefore pursuit of knowledge." [guess they're unaware of the brilliant scientists and researchers, doctors and engineers, inventors and physicists who are religious. ]

shall we continue? there's a whole bunch of atheist threads, we've barely scratched the surface, happy to provide more.

I see no attacks there. Certainly nothing to compare to, "If you don't accept Jesus Christ as your personal savior you will go to hell".

if it's a fairy tale then the person would take it no more seriously than someone saying Santa Claus won't bring them any toys or harry potter will wave a magic wand and cast a spell on them.

are you saying there are atheists who feel "attacked" by what is in a comic strip? , or atheists feel "attacked" by something even kids beyond the age of 3 or 4 know is not true? are atheists with all that superior intellect frightened by imaginary scary monsters that don't exist? can't they discern what is real?

view expressed in post above sounds like there are atheists bothered by the content of fairy tales, and bothered by people who talk about fairy tales.
curious.

Are you saying that there are not christian ministers and missionaries who don't do the hell thing?

No. She is saying if you really think it is a fairy tale and hell does not even exist, why do you consider it an attack to say you are going there???

Something doesn't have to be true to be used to attack a person.

It's dehumanizing to say a person deserves to go there just like it's dehumanizing to say people will be destroyed by God in Armageddon. I doubt most people take it personally but it's meant to strip someone of their humanity nonetheless.

In my Mystic file I have: Ph.D., sociology & psychology + genius-level IQ.

Yet, the simplest things seem to elude you. Is this a Dunning-Kruger thing and I'm just not intelligent enough to recognize because oh, man do you look like you don't get people at all.

and yet there are atheists on the board who regularly say things like "if you don't like what someone says put them on ignore" or "if you can't stand the heat get out of the kitchen" or "we're here to talk frankly so deal with it"

curious.

Seems pretty whiney compared to telling someone they are so fundamentally flawed they should be tormented forever.

Why don't you show some consistency and needle the pee out of yourself for posting on the atheism forum when you don't agree with atheists?
