I will have to ask my wife about Instagram. It is technically one of those mobile-only services and I really hate peering at social media on a laptop much less some little peep-hole pocket device. But my wife has had to figure Instagram out because she manages social media for an organization that's hired her for PR work so perhaps this is my excuse to subject myself to it ...
As for Facebook, don't get me started. I only keep my account open so I have some clue what is going on with my daughter's family. I preferred Twitter, mostly as a news feed, until some rich clown ran it into the ground and now I'm on the fediverse via Mastodon.

I use Instagram on my computer all the time. Never accessed it on my phone.
I have never felt a need for any social media accounts other than Facebook (since everybody I know is on there). I do follow FFRF there, mainly for the entertainment they post every Friday in the letters they receive.

I'm given to understand from someone in the PR field that does social media, that it's very difficult to do elaborate posts on that platform from the web interface; they use subscription-based tools for that. But on the other hand I don't claim to understand the platform, and haven't really tried. Not enough hours in the day.

You are right. Some features can only be accessed using the phone app. You can only create reels using the phone app for example.
Okay I just checked this. Apparently you can now.
This is a recent upgrade this year. I might have a play although all my video content is on my phone.
I've recently been editing everything from within meta business suite which has made things so much easier to share between platforms. You still can't create reels there though for IG.

Yes, I was reaching for the term -- "reels", that is what they needed to do.
