As I've pointed out, there's more to "life" than simply animating the body, making sure the blood pumps, the lungs work, and the brain has electrical activity...or we could just jumpstart everyone when they die. I call that something the "soul" or "animus".

That's it? Your whole belief in a soul hinges on that?!?

If you fry the motherboard on your computer, can you just shock it to make it work again? No? Well, there must have been a soul in there then, eh? Now that the soul is gone, the computer doesn't work.

If your car breaks down, if you start a gasoline explosion next to it to make it work again? "Hmmm, it used to work, now it doesn't.... there must be a soul that left it."

Surely you must see the error you're making here.

You're comparing inanimate objects to living things, surely you can see the error you're making there.

The fact that you can't just shock a computer to make it work again doesn't mean there's a soul inside it. It means that once mechanisms by which the computer operates have been damaged, the computer won't work right, even with electricity added. (And a general shock wouldn't work in the first place.)

I had hope that analogy would help you see that once a brain is damaged, we shouldn't expect a simple shock would bring the brain cells back to life. That has nothing to do with a soul. That is due to the damaged "hardware" (thanks Effie).

There is zero reason to believe there is a soul inside you. Every bit of your conscious though, your inner dialouge - everything, is caused by a brain.

By what mechanism is your soul supposed to be able to think, if it has no brain?

What makes you think that a soul would think? It's a life essence, nothing more or less. Animals have them, plants have them...there's something that differentiates life from death. That would be the soul.

So you believe plants have souls as well?

What you call the "Soul", microbiologist usually call the Krebs cycle. But it doesn't mysteriously survive death.

i am impressed by your blanket guarantee and mark twain's declaration of utter fearlessness of death.
i must say death is the only place where we will all be on the same page and feel the same gut wrenching sense of failure and fear. have seen it many times.
