Based on my criteria of safety, having 2 kids (ages 3 and 6), etc.

Which should we choose for our rental for 4-6 months?

1. AMLI Mill Creek (across from Mall of GA)
2. The Preserve at Legacy Park - Lawrenceville (across of Gwinnett Med Ctr).

Convenience to Hubby's job at Med Ctr is NOT an issue.
The drive from either place (or walk HA!) is totally fine!
I know the AMLI area, and know nothing about the Lawrenceville area.

The AMLI gets higher ratings. I can't imagine that the crime is that much different between the two areas, though.

BTW, ask the apartment complexes if they have a courtesy officer who lives there. Many complexes will give reduced rent to police officers.

AMLI will be a traffic nightmare with mall traffic especially if you are still there in November when Christmas shopping starts. However your kids will love driving by Toys R Us everyday. You could walk to the mall however it is inconvenient for everyday grocery shopping.

The Preserve at Legacy Park is a super convenient location with easy access to Kroger and Target. You will also have easy access to Highway 316 and Old Norcross road is a good alternate route if you want to avoid the freeway.

I would give serious consideration to this piece of advice. If both properties offer comparable features--good floor plans and other amenities the ease of navigating the area would sway my decision.

The Mall of GA is the largest mall in GA, FWIW.

So I'm assuming that if the Lawrenceville area was in an unsafe pocket, someone would have chimed in and said, "Um, I would go with AMLI." Yes?

Lawrenceville is headquarters for Gwinnett County government.
I'm not clear about exactly where the medical center and this complex are located but several people who are familiar with the area have given the --which is enough for me.

Lawrenceville isn't so large that there could be high crime areas in the vicinity.

They are in the process of redeveloping many historic buildings--adding more shopping and dining.

I have no words to describe to you the sort of traffic I have seen/experienced around the Mall of GA---not something I would inflict upon myself if I had any choice. They have strip malls--lots of strip malls. In one you might find grocery stores and then need to drive to another for other shopping. Walmarts and SuperWalmarts have their own large shopping centers and then you walk 'miles' to get to the store. Not pleasant.

Someone said the shopping routes are easier near The Preserve--I would live there.

The Preserve, all the way. MOG traffic is not something to be taken lightly. Weekends will become unbearable, as hordes of people descend upon the mall every weekend. Also, there is really only Hwy 20 to navigate to and from the mall from 85 and 985, so it completely bottlenecks.

In better news, The Preserve is in a really nice area, with tons of amenities right outside your door. You shouldn't have any problems. Hope this helps!
