I'll be in the ATL area (between downtown and Alpharetta) in the next week, and would like some recommendations on good local camera stores selling equipment for advanced amateurs/professional. Particularly independent stores (I've already got Wolf and Biggs where I live, so I'm not interested in those). Thanks for the help.

+1 for Showcase. They also teach classes, but realize you won't be town long enough to likely participate in one.

Professional Photoraphic Resources, on 11th Street in Midtown.

There used to be a decent pro-level store in an incredibly difficult-to-find location in Lilburn called PhotoBarn -- their web site doesn't seem to be working, but you could try their phone number during business hours: (770) 921-9500.

The Wolf Ultra at Peachtree and Piedmont is not bad at all. Although Showcase is till the big Kahuna in my opinion.

And I know you didn't mention photo finishing in your message but if you are looking for a local shop to print your photos I can highly recommend myphotopipe.com, formerly known as Color Genesis. Their lab is on I-85 between Clairmont and N. Druid Hills. You can upload stuff to their website, print it, then go to their lab and pick it up. They do a fantastic job.
