Has anyone read this?

I guess I'm of two minds about it. I've had a BP Visa for years that has offered one of the most aggressive rebate structures of any gas-company credit card, so long as you buy at BP stations. There are three or four BP stations within a few miles of my house that have benefitted over the years by getting my business by virtue of their association with BP. So now they're dealing with the other edge of that sword. Since, in a certain sense, the stations are BP's customers, not me, I hope the negative effects on the retailers of BP's handling of the spill cause the retailers to put pressure on BP to change its ways. I suspect they'll ultimately have more influence than individual consumers. So it's OK with me if they get pinched a bit so that they in turn put the squeeze on BP.

OTOH, I do dislike seeing local businesses get slammed for things that are out of their control. And while they certainly had a choice about which of the major gas companies to affiliate with, I suspect the major difference between BP, Shell, ConocoPhillips, Chevron, and ExxonMobil is primarily that what happened to BP just happened to them first, and given enough time and enough drill sites, it's just as likely it would happen to the others as well, and I have little reason to believe they'd behave much better.

All Gas comming out the pipelines is the same. Its made to 1 Standard. Gas get brand when it goes into the truck that brings it to the station. BP (Corp) is going to make the same amount of Gas, If they don't sell it under there brand they will sell it on the spot market, and it will get branded as someone elses gas.

Btw the BP station I pass every day is 2/3 cents higher then all the others around, Its also right next to a highway exit, but 99% of the people on the hiway are locals, so it pumping it up cause it next to a exit won't get them much more biz.

I am actually surprised that people in Atlanta metro are actually wise enough NOT to support BP anylonger. Being that the oil leak has no direct effect on Georgia. My take on the BP owners is....too bad so sad...I can care less. Actually, Id rather see them fail. So if BP goes out of business that is ok by me. The owners act like they help the communities they are in? All they have to do is changed the signage and they are back to filling the Atl SUV. Change brands or suffer.

Well most of the are in Long Term Leases, so they can't change brands even if they wanted to.

Then, who's going to pay for the clean up? Give me a break...

Most of the BP stations on my side of town went out of business a couple years ago. We have just one that I drive past.

Ill buy gas at BP or wherever...if I need it, I need it...

When BP started their stupid anti oil green ads about 10 years ago, I quit buying their products. I don't buy Citgo either.

I have a couple of local stations that I go to on a regular basis. One is a BP, but I haven't decided yet if I'm going to change my fill-up pattern or not.

Maybe it's time to take advantage of my Kroger discount!
