Hi,
We are relocating from Europe (France). My partner is black and I am white. We would dearly like to move into a racially diverse area where there are mixed marriages.
Where would you suggest? I was thinking of Little Five Points but cannot find any houses on the market.

Thanks,
Gabby

I think where ever you live in Atlanta will be pretty mixed as far as white and black. I am not sure about mixed marriages but I think most neighborhoods are pretty mixed.

Little Five has some great culture but some of the characters around there can get dodgy at night (and occassionally all day) but it's very fun around there. Depending on how much you make, you could check out Midtown, but some of the places around there can get quite pricey (1 bedroom for 900 + utilities, etc)

Thanks mamamarie and stephenw,

I am looking to spend around $500,000 +/- on a home. I looked around Morningside, Virginia highland Druid hills and thought that these areas were predominatly white (but I may have been wrong with my impressions.) I have also considered moving near Atlantic Station - I heard that it may be a good investment.

Thanks for your tip on mid-town Stephenw. I will check it out :-)

I wouldn't say Virginia Highlands are predominantly white, but I would say it's pretty close. Atlantic Station was recently in the news because its starting to go a little downhill, and it hasn't even been around that long so I'm not sure how nice of an area it will be in 4 or 5 years (I personally dont want to be around to find out. . .I'm looking to go to Maine)

500,000 would go pretty far in the Decatur area which is maybe 10-15 minutes from downtown. Downtown Decatur is very nice though it is more apartments, so if you're looking for a home I would try probably Midtown. I dont know what the market's like but some of the historic homes are very very nice and would probably do quite well if invested in.

Candler Park & Lake Clair are a couple more options. They're within walking distance of Little Five Points, but far enough away that they're not in the middle of the madness.

Any of those you listed are fine and you won't have a problem. Honestly if you do a search in the forum you'll find that it seems that 50% of the people moving here are in mixed marriages - if it ever was a problem it won't be due to the sheer numbers of mixed couples moving here. LOL
