There are a few over by the LA Fitness/Marta station on Mt. Vernon (near Abernathy) which I have known a few people that have lived over there and liked it (I don't know the names, sorry) as well as an older townhome development, which is probably really affordable. Sorry the names escape me, but if you drive over that way you will see what I'm talking about. One I think is Windsor at Mt. Vernon. Another is Mt. Vernon Plantation perhaps? I also would agree with the recommendations of around the Perimeter Center complex (where Taco Mac, Target, etc. are located), although it may get too congested there.

The areas I would avoid are the eastern fringes of Dunwoody...like Cobain said, anything east of Chamblee-Dunwoody. This area is where the majority of the crime in the city takes place, most of it within any apartment complexes over there.

So north of 285, east of 400, and west of Chamblee-Dunwoody? What's the northern most I could go? I'm sure it gets congested by the mall and along Ashford Dunwoody. But having everything so conveniently located is a huge plus. If this is where a lot of 30something professionals live, even better.

While I'm willing to pay a little extra for something nice, I don't want to go too high. AMLI Perimeter Place and Gables Metropolitan look really nice, but both seem expensive. Plus AMLI doesn't seem very dog-friendly. There was another place I came across called Two Blocks. It looks nice, but it's over on the east side past Chamblee-Dunwoody so I ruled that out. How are Dunwoody Station and Colonial Grand at Mt. Vernon?

If the east part of Dunwoody is bad, then would the dog park on N. Peachtree road be a really good idea? I don't want to take my dog to an unsafe place or one where people bring aggressive dogs.

Colonial Grand was one of the places I was trying to remember...not sure how the apartments themselves are, but the location is good. Not sure which one is Dunwoody Station.

Brookrun is fine for your dog...we've taken ours there plenty of times and no issues. Seems like people come from pretty far away to go there, so I don't think it's exact location has much impact on who goes there, not that it's really in a "bad" location, per se.

The east part of Dunwoody is by no means a bad area. In fact I would even call it a nice area. Its just not as nice as the Perimeter area. There are some apartment complexes that have crime, but the crime is contained to the complexes - and its mostly car break-ins and the like, not violent crime. Brook Run is not really near those complexes and is located in a nice single family home neighborhood. Ive taken my dogs there before and its perfectly safe.

Colonial Grand is getting pretty old by now. My sister lived there in the mid-90s when it was Preston Oaks. I would check out Post Crossing as Post has a good rep for nice complexes.

Dunwoody Station is on Peachtree Dunwoody Rd within walking distance of the North Springs MARTA station. Not sure how much you hear the trains. I'm guessing it depends on where in the complex you are. But it's awfully convenient not just to MARTA, but also 400, 285 and the overall perimeter area.

Colonial Grand is older, but it seems like most of the complexes in that area are. If you want newer, I guess you have to go further north or east.
