Hi all,

I am at the begininng of my research, so although I am asking for North areas, I am open to learning about other areas.

I presently live in Austin TX, and my GF and I are planning a possible move to the north of Atlanta area. As far north as 1/2 way between Dahlonega and Atlanta.. though not necessarily that far. We prefer north, as we plan to visit the mountains and parks more that are near the border as getaway times, so we did not wish initially for the added drives from being south of Atlanta.

PLEASE NOTE: We are at the beginning of our research. Although we stated north, we are open to other areas. Any input or advice is appreciated.

Here is some info I hope is helpful.

1. Budget for home:

$150,000 - $200,000($225,000 tops)

2. House/Condo/Townhome?
HOUSE - with 1/4 acre preferred( or close to it if possible)

3. Employment Status(commute/work from home)
Location of Employment
SHE: Masters of Theology degree: Childrens Pastor and/or Teacher
HE: Starting business from home, but needs to be at outreach an hour
or so of a population base

4. Children(public school vs. private)
No children(yet), but want a school system that is ranked good and does not have SPANISH as a primary language in the school.
That is a problem here for us, where even the school signs are not in english.

5. Suburban or Urban lifestyle preference or a mix of the two
Lifestyle: Suburban.. not too urban..

6. Easy access to public transit, important or not?
NOT

7. Preferable demographics of desired neighborhood.
Prefer mixed neighborhood. I grew up outside NYC, she in Dallas area.
So we like multicultural, just do not want a negative impact that can come
from low education areas, high drug use, robberies, etc.

If you're locked in on being near Dahlonega, you'll want to look in/around Cumming. If you're open to areas more to the west, you can look in Woodstock/Canton/Holly Springs.

Hi BobK,

Thanks for the response.
No, my future wife and I are not locked into being near Dahlonega,
I guess you can say the 1/2 way point it was more of of a "starting point"
for us.

Weare indeed open to other areas.. and may just have to drive a little
further for our excursions, which are fine.

To all who read this thread, please post your thoughts.
I appreciate your time.

Look at Buford. The best getaway to the north is up the 985 to 23/441. Tallulah Gorge State Park,Black Rock Mountain State Park,Cherokee NC,Maggie Valley & The Great Smokies Park.

The Lake Arrowhead area of Cherokee County (near the little college town of Waleska) is lovely.
