I live in Roswell and work downtown, it takes about an hour or 1:15 to make it during rush hour. Try really hard to get a flex commute, where you start at 8am or 10am etc. At those times, you would be looking at 40 minutes, and that actually will make a big improvement in your quality of life. Roswell is definitely worth it though...

Both are great areas to live with excellent schools. You can live in East Cobb in certain areas and be very close to Roswell and vice versa. We looked at both when moving here and for our commute East Cobb was closer. You can't really go wrong with either choice.

Cruise Card comment is spot on. Why for the life of me people take 10 minutes to pump quarters I don't know....

Thick betwen Exits 7 and 8 down to Northsprings....starts to pick up and then full tilt boogey to the toll plaza, slow down at the merge, creep near GT and dodge em's the rest of the way to Williams Street or the next...

In the evening, it can be a little worse. But, the gents comment about the hour each way is more the norm. I lived in Broward for 8 years before coming back. It's similar to the Palmetto-95-Turnpike connector down to 8th street....

You will feel right at home but, the people are not nearly as nasty as they are in South Florida. Here, they will actually let you change lanes unlike South Florida, as you know, they speed up to cut you off. Especially if you have your blinker on. Afraid you might "get something on them".....for free....amazing....

You'll see, it's night and day as it relates to road manners although there are plenty here who would differ. And the old folks aren't rude like Century Village.

For those that have lived and suffered through South Florida, you tell me?

Welcome home my friend, welcome home.

Wow Caleb, you certainly know my pain!!...We live in Pembroke Pines and I am on the Palmetto ALL the time. We have been looking at what $350k will get you in Roswell vs. what you get in Pembroke Pines or Miramar and the difference is incredible. Do you recommend any particular areas in Roswell?...we have a 3 year old so schools will be important.....Next time we are up there i will bring some Mojitos!!

And a variation to this theme of "Where you live in Roswell" is how you intend to get to Ga. 400.

First off, let's be clear, there ARE no alternates to Ga. 400 if traveling from Roswell to downtown. I've tried 'em all and even if an airliner went down on Ga. 400, you can still get to Roswell faster on 400 after they pick up the bodies than you can using Roswell Road, I75 and then cutover or Peachtree Industrial and cutting over. There just are NOT any alternatives. If Ga400 is dead, go back home and call in sick. You ain't getting to work that day.

Having established that, the question then becomes, how fast can you get to Ga. 400. From pure dumb luck, I found a house (in a subdivision with several on the market BTW) that's less than a 1/3 of a mile from the Holcomb Bridge entrance to Ga 400. During the winter when the trees are bare, I can literally see the merge on Ga 400. Even so, depending on the traffic, it can take me less than a minute to get on 400 to as much as a half hour. That 1/3 of a mile has been backed up to my subdivision on occasion. So imagine what that would be if you lived 3-5 miles from that same entrance. I've got co-workers who live in Roswell and it takes them anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour longer to get to work than it does me....simply because it takes them that much longer to fight through Roswell traffic to get to Ga. 400.

I'll second this. I live about 2.5 miles east of the Holcomb Bridge/GA 400 interchange. I don't usually have to commute into Atlanta, but on those occasions when I've had to do it at rush hour, it's pretty common for it to take at least 20 minutes for me to get to that interchange.

So, from the same location, what kind of commute are you looking at to get to Abernathy in Silver Springs?

You mean Sandy Springs, not Silver Springs.

I live in the Roswell zip code although not actually in the City of Roswell, but in East Cobb. I must live a stone's throw from "blakeas" another poster on this thread who said he lives near Mabry Road and Hwy 92. Me too.

I work in Sandy Springs, just past Abernathy. I don't commute on GA 400. That would be insane, from my location. I commute down Johnson Ferry Rd. That's not a bad commute. It's about a 25 minute drive at low-traffic times of day and about 45 minutes at peak.

My cubicle neighbor at work resides in Woodstock and also commutes via 92/Mabry/Johnson Ferry. If you live in West Roswell, East Cobb or SouthEast Cherokee and need to get to Abernathy, you're better off on the surface streets, specifically, Johnson Ferry. The bridge over the Chattahoochee is a bottleneck, but there appears to be a widening project under way. If your office hours are flexible so that you can commute off-peak, you'll be much better off.

Sorry, yes...Between FL and MD (Silver Spring, metro DC), I named the wrong town. Sounds like you are fairly close to Blessed Trinity.

What is your impression of the reverse communte? What if you lived in Sandy Springs and commuted to Blessed Trinity in the morning, and then home from Roswell in the evenings? You'd still have to cross the Chattahoochee. Is it better with the reverse commute?

I could never do an hour in the car each way with the potential for worse traffic. However, if you're fine with that, you shouldn't expect much more. Roswell is a great place ...if you don't have to commute
