Hello City Data!

I have some questions, I do hope you guys can assist!

My family, young, African_American , married with 3 children, are looking to move to the Atlanta area by 2012.

I have been looking all over, and i like the areas of Marietta and Lawrenceville.

Are those the right picks? What I am looking for is a quiet suburban area, good schools and friendly people with that good ole "down south demeanor".

Are Lawrenceville and Marietta considered the COUNTRY? the BOONDOCKS? away from CIVILITATION as I have heard?

Are those areas good for middle class African American families?

Is the area mixed? All white or all black? or neither?

How far is the commute from Atlanta?

Are the suburban areas close to shopping centers or malls?

How are the schools?

Are there good programs for kids down there? Like soccer, basketball, modeling, art, etc?

If I transferred from my job, I would go to Alpharetta as a work location, is that really far away from those areas?

My family is from the Washington DC area, and not only is it too high to live here, the area is out of control.

I want a better life for my kids, i want to breath fresher air, and houses I see down here, ( I get alerts for homes every day from coldwell banker), that are going for 200k or less in Marietta/Lawrenceville, are considered Minimansions in my area and go for no LESS than 500k.

Right now, my total income for my home is roughly 70k per year combined and my job doesnt take my pay when I transfer, so that alone is a GREAT THING!

I know these seem like alot of questions, but I am so excited about moving to the Atlanta area, its all I think about.

If these areas arent good for what I am looking for, please suggest other areas.

Whats important to me is
Alot of house for less than 200k
Good/decent schools
NON hostile neighbors that arent 500 miles away from my home, but not too close
I dont mind a big commute to get into the city, but I do need shopping and things to do near me so that I am not forced to go into the city, a mall with Walmart or target is cool, lol.
Extracurricular activities.
