apartment rental or house/townhome/condo rental? What are some pros and cons for either decision and if you were a single professional woman/man and had to chose what would be your choice?

With reference to renting condos and/or townhomes some posters have advised caution--verify that the owner is not planning to sell the property, etc.

That said, I believe you would have to evaluate each property individually--some apartments are better than others and so on.

You have to make sure that the property is not near foreclosure status. I have seen some of the prices for apartments here and some can be pretty high in rent and or in utility cost. No matter where u live there may be people that don't care for the property or respectful of neighbors. Not necessarily low income people, this can be any person regardless of income or class. I chose to go through a private rental. To me apartments have too many fees involved and they are known for estimating your bills based on apartment size rather than actual usage. Let's not forget most apartments have thin walls and poor insulation resulting in higher bills and extra noise. I would use georgia mls finder, realtor.com or go through a realtor when renting a house. Be careful with craigslist some scams may not seem that obvious. A lot of apartment complexes advertise on there as well.
