My husband has just retired and we're looking for a a warmer climate to call home. We're a 60 year old very active African American couple who would love a diverse community. Beautiful homes seem to be very reasonable in Villa Rica and it's not to far from Atlanta. Can anyone tell me what it's really like or recommend another city? Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Newnan would be another option.

Athens, Ga--NE of Atlanta might be worth a look. The University of GA is there.>>

Villa Rica is a playground for the trashy and racist. My advice would be to stick to the southern and northern burbs. To the south, Peachtree City, Newnan, Fayetteville and to the North anywhere in North Fulton, most of Gwinnett and Cobb county. Great school, affordable (north Fulton is a bit pricey) and lower tax rates.

I would recommend Athens, GA for an active retiree. I often think that Atlantans should retire in Athens.

I used to live there. Let us know if you need more info.

You could read this for more information on Athens: //www.city-data.com/forum/georg...s-georgia.html

I like Newnan. I just hate the traffic there. I'm sure the traffic there is nothing compared to other areas of metro Atlanta, but it seems bad to me.

Some of the northern suburbs are way more racist than Villa Rica. I'm talking about Forsyth and Cherokee in particular.

Here we are in 2014. The last post for this forum was 2011. So....what's new in Villa Rica? My family is relocating next month (May) to Villa Rica, and the last time we lived in Georgia (Dallas) was in 2005, and it looks like Villa Rica has grown some. Can anyone living in Villa Rica give us an idea of what we will be transitioning into? Housing seems to be quite a bit cheaper in Villa Rica than Dallas. Also, we decided on Villa Rica due to easier commute to Atlanta.

1.) Best neighborhoods? While looking on the Internet, we have seen homes in Cedar Glens, Fairfield Plantation, etc.
2.) New shopping/restaurants? How is development in this area?
3.) Crime (Which areas of Villa Rica is it prominent?)

Thanks! Any info would be appreciated.
