i am moving from MD to gwinnett county and i wanted to know more about some apartments in the duluth area, specifically merritt at satellite place, the estates at crossroads, and avonlea on the river. i visited each of these places, and they all seem nice, but i am more concerned about safety over everything else. if anyone knows more information other than what i can find on other websites, i would really appreciate it! thank you!!

Avonlea on the river may be the best choice, as it is in the most affluent area. I would check out apartment reviews online. There is a web site where people post reviews of apartments, but I can't remember the exact site. I would search the web under "Atlanta apartment reviews" or something like that, but I seem to remember that complex rating high in terms of reviews that last time I saw the website. My wife and I almost moved there a few years ago, but bought a house instead. By the way, Avonlea is actually in Fulton County (John's Creek) if that matters.

All are good choices.
Avonlea is next to whole's food market in Johns Creek.
Estates at Crossroad is located in highly concertrated Korean community.
Merritt at satellite is next to Gwinnett police station and potentially high riser project (18 golf courses already built there).

Where is your job? Pleasant hill is very congested. So if you need to access I-85, Merritt is best choice. If you work in Alpharatta/Johns Creek, Avonlea is probably the best choice.

Will you be working in Gwinnett? I wouldn't suggest apartment rentals in Gwinnett County if you will be commuting to Atlanta each day.

i have lived in Gwinnett County most of my adult life and would MOST ASSUREDLY recommend the Avonlea one in the John's Creek area over anything else. STAY away from Pleasant Hill Rd as much as possible. Learn all the back roads to get to the places you need to go. I've moved to the outer limits of Gwinnett (ie Auburn/Dacula) and dread going down to Duluth unless absolutely necessary...but I've always liked the John's Creek area better than any other part of Duluth.

Keep in mind that Avonlea on the river is next to city of Duluth, just across the bridge in fact. It is in heavily commerical area and not in the center of Johns Creek, which is heavily residential. That's why the rent is comparable to the other apartments. So I am not sure all those Johns Creek vs Duluth comparsion make whole a lot sense here.

We are not talking about Reserve at Johns Creek here, which is located in residential neighborhood and rent over that demand much higher (maybe $200 to $250) premium.

It is right across the river from Duluth, but it is a generally better area than the Gwinnett Mall area, even though it is just a few miles away (however, be warned that there was a murder in an apartment complex just around the corner from Avonlea on Peachtree Industrial a couple of days ago, although in a lower end apartment complex - it used to be called Northwoods Lake and now it is "something" at Berkley).
