I completely agree. That's a ridiculous attitude.

You can actually be a citizen of the city of Atlanta and live OTP (Adamsville, Ben Hill, Cascade, Sandtown). You can live ITP in Panthersville or Northlake and be further from downtown than Smyrna which is OTP.

And the Perimeter highway did form a 'perimeter' of sorts for the vast part of what was considered urban and suburban Atlanta when it was mapped out in the late 50's/early 60s. Seems to me it was referred to as the Perimeter Highway or something longer and got lovingly reduced to just the term Perimeter at some point thereafter.
Very good point...I think OTP/ITP once was mostly used for location purposes, but more recently has become a point of condescension by some toward OTP residents.

Yeah I read this in the Champion Newspaper. It annoyed me that Tucker's civic leaders gave up so easily. The fact that an incorporated Tucker would be economically feasible should have been enough to at least push for a vote. They said Northlake would not want to be forced into Tucker, but my point is who cares what Northlake wants? I mean, they act like they're Perimeter or Cumberland. As a business/retail district, it does not have the same amount of clout.

In fact, I think Northlake would attract more business being in an incorporated area than unincorporated, mostly because of the police presence. I think it would also help revitalize that area.

In any case, I was disappointed to see Tucker give up so easily. And this may be their only shot before the problems of Clarkston and Stone Mountain start to creep northward.

Speaking of Tucker, does anyone know when the Main Street revitalization project is supposed to start? It was scheduled for May, then got pushed back to sometime in summer, and now it is October and they still haven't started. The website for Main Street Tucker Alliance is no longer working. I believe they were the ones spearheading the effort. I wish this project would hurry up and get started; this thing has taken years to get off the ground.

I don't think they gave up easily. I think they pushed a little too hard and I know for a fact they rubbed a lot of people in the community the wrong way with their the best case scenario is the only possible outcome and the county is screwing us (which is demonstrably untrue) approach. They held community meetings, many of which I attended, for years and years. In my opinion, the Tucker Civic Association did not do a good job of presenting the idea of incorporation, and that's a big part of the reason why they failed.

If I were a business, I'd want an Atlanta address rather than a Tucker address. The Northlake retail area actually has one of the lowest vacancy rates of any mall-centric retail areas in the metro. This was in the news a few months ago...I'll see if I can dig up the link. Having said that, the retail that exists, especially inside the mall, is a lot of low-end, no-name junk, and I'd like to see more name brand stores.

It's supposed to be very soon, but they've said that a lot of times in the past and nothing visible has happened.

There is some work going on. One of the buildings on Main Street is having its dated stucco-ish facade removed to reveal the original bricks.

Atlanta wouldn't get very far without Adenosine triphosphate(ATP).

Edit: Why in the name of God would you bump up a year old thread YOU created linking to a more recent thread.

To show that there was an article written about this actual subject of "ATP" a few years ago--and that it was discussed on this forum. Will connect/enhance the current "ATP" discussion. Whether I started this thread or not is irrelevant. I just happened to be the first person way back when to place it on here--it would have been someone else if not me. The important part is the article in the first post and subsequent discussion in the thread.

More information is always helpful on here--it helps stave off misinformation and "SNL-Jack Handey-esque" posts and thread starts. This is crucial for you to understand since you are very new on this forum.

Did you read the first post and accompanying article??? You should. Should be helpful to you.
