Hi, I am about to put down a deposit on a refurbished house in the area right near Cobb Park, less than a mile behind the Smyrna Market Village. I am a young mom of two kids less than 2 years old and will be staying at home during the day all day.

Is this a smart move? CrimeReports.com just scared the crap out of me but I don't know if what I'm seeing is kind of normal being in/near Atlanta. What I'm seeing is mostly theft from vehicle, but also a couple burglaries in some areas around the house about a 1/4 mile a way. All within the last 7-9 months or so.

The house is very nice, and the houses all around it are the same and look to be kept up very well (nice landscaping, etc). They all look to be built in the 1950's-1960's.

Please help. Thank you!

Well the police station is right by the Market Village and IMO it is a pretty safe area. There are many new homes on land plots mixed in with much smaller and older homes. Those people would not build a home if they didn't feel it was safe.

Smyrna also has TONS of parks around, its quite amazing how many there are.

As for crime well we are in a recession and most everywhere has sadly seen crime go up. I mean once you do your due diligence and be safe you should be okay. I recommend also getting a home alarm and getting to know your neighbors.

Good luck.
