If the Republican party can get its act together and reach out to Hispanics, blacks, gays and other minorities there is no reason they can't continue to view Georgia as a safe harbor. At the state level they should be fine.

However, if they keep blundering around and insulting everybody they can't expect to win hearts and minds.

Most democrats are far more centrist now then they used to be, and I've seen Obama described as the equialent of a moderate 80's Republican in terms of policy more than once in the past year.

You're dreaming. Obama is a hard-core leftist.

The Democrat Party has veered left, while the Republican Party has either veered left (with Republican moderates) or to the right (with Tea Party Republicans). The Democrat Party is an outright Marxist party.

Why should the Republican Party pander to groups who do not like their message? Pandering will only lose the support of their constituent base.

What is your model for the Republican Party? Destroy your political philosophy and act like Democrats? Whites would stop supporting the Republicans if they did that. It's a losing proposition because the Republicans would lose far more voters than they'd attract by acting like Democrats. Furthermore, the Democrats would be seen as the "real deal" by those who are currently attracted to Democrats.

You're right. The GOP should continue doing exactly what they've been doing over the last two presidential cycles. When you stumble onto a winning plan, stick with it.

You are so right. When someone calls him a liberal, or even a socialist I know they haven't a clue as to what they're talking about. Essentially the Democrats have taken the center pushing the Republicans so far into crazyville that they've made Ronald Reagan a RINO. Most Americans are moderates. We lean moderate to right on fiscal issues and moderate to left on social issues.

You seem to be unfamiliar with the term "Marxist". Here is some reading to get you started:

The Communist Manifesto by Friedrich Engels and Karl Marx - Project Gutenberg

So have no principles is what you propose? Become something that is always changing? For what? To win a popularity contest? You win nothing if you throw out your principles. You simply win a contest, but your ideas have lost.

This is a popularity contest in which the winner has the highest political position in the nation. He has control over the arm forces and is the leader of his party. He has the ability to appoint Supreme Court Justices and important administration positions. So if you party's popularity is waning and you want to double down on an increasingly failing agenda, by all means continue. I hope you are not surprised when people are no longer listening, because that’s the very essence of what an idea means.
