I'm looking for some feedback/suggestions on private schools in Cobb County. My child is 4 now, so I will be applying soon for her to go to kindergarten next year. Also, I keep hearing people mention prefirst grade. What is the difference between that and kindergarten? My child has a summer birthday.

Where do you live in Cobb County that you need to consider a private school?

Just curious. The impression I have is that most Cobb Public schools are good enough to provide a very good education given a motivated student.

Most East Cobb schools are great and even the schools in far-West Cobb are good, but there are several crappy elementary schools mixed in around I-75 area. We are looking into moving into this area. We don't have any kids, but plan on having kids in a few years. We don't want to buy into a crappy school district. We've identified Eastside Christian and Mount Bethel as possible alterntives. We've just started doing some research on them. If anyone has any experience with these schools, I'd love to know what you think. Thanks!

I have heard good things about Mt Bethel. Also you may want to look at Walker and Woodacres. I have heard but am not sure that Woodacres has some sort of agreement with Walton...somehting to do with a Spanish program.

I live in West Cobb. The local elementary school is not good.

I'll look into those schools. Thanks! I agree. I think overall, Cobb is very good but there are some bad schools mixed in.

Is anyone familiar with St. Benedict's Episcopal Day School, Faith Lutheran School, and the Shreiner School? What are the pros and cons of those schools?

We looked at Faith Lutheran for pre school. The school has a very family like atmosphere. I was impressed that almost all the students in year 4 preschool were already reading. Other than knowing a teacher (who has her PHD, I met a few years after looking at the school) I can't comment further on academics. Overall I liked the feel of the school. I'd say it is worth a look.
