I'm looking for a resort in Georgia to get away for about 5 nights with my fiancee. Young couple in mid 20s. We would like to be within 30-40 min driving to ATL, but somewhere relaxing and quiet.

I was looking at Chateau Elan and I was about to book it but I'd like some local thoughts. Doesn't have to be near ATL, so if there're other resorts further away, that could be a consideration as well.

Thanks.

We went to Chateu and werent too impressed. There really is nothing there but the winery and some restaurants. You would be bored after 1-2 nights. And when we went ( I dont remember the month, but I think it was Nov), the vines were totally bare, so the place isnt the picturesque place you see in the brochures. The winery tour is about 30 mins, which you have to pay for and they werent working so there was basically nothing to see.

Ritz Carlton at Renynolds Plantation (Lake Oconee) is worth checking out.

Don't forget Callaway Gardens - lovely. But BringBackCobain is right, the Ritz at Lake Oconee is one of the prettiest places I've been. About 90 miles east of Atlanta out I20.

Thanks for the feedbacks. I will not be golfing at all. The focus is more on spa, horseback riding, etc.

Are there any resorts in GA that offer both spa and horseback riding? All inclusive.

It may be be a little further than you want to go but we have always enjoyed Highlands, NC, just across the state line.

Another nice spot is the Brasstown Valley Inn in Young Harris.

I agree about Callaway and Lake Oconee, too.

Callaway Gardens has a spa, and it is located across from FDR State Park which has horseback riding.

The James Madison Inn in Madison, GA is lovely, as is the town.
