I ask this because a group of blacks in my office were talking about this and they all seemed to agree that they didnt know anyone that celebrated this holiday NOT to stir up any racial BS. They seemed to infer that this was some sort of made up or faux holiday. I personally have never meet anyone that celebrates it but hey I'm white. Yet I do see more and more Happy Kwanzaa mentioned during the holiday season. Why is this?

The histoy of Kwanzaa is listed below. Take a look at the background of the black nationalist who invented it. He seems to be quite the nefarious character to me. Convicted of touturing women???

"In 1971, Karenga "was sentenced to one to ten years in prison on counts of felonious assault and false imprisonment".[8] One of the victims gave testimony of how Karenga tortured her and another woman whom he had accused of attempting to assassinate him."

People. Group of black people.

Yeah, Kwanzaa is made up. Most holidays are. I don't know anyone who celebrates it either, but that means exactly nothing. Let's be generous and say that I "know" the 300 people that I'm Facebook friends with, plus maybe 50 other people. That means I know about one one-millionth of the United States. But I wouldn't make any assumptions about what the rest of the country is doing or not doing.

As far as Karenga goes, that's the risk you run with celebrating manufactured holiday - you might find out something unsavory about its origins later. Some people are a bit bothered by the existence of public holidays that honor guys who owned slaves or who went around "discovering" places that were doing just fine before they showed up.

You might find this shocking. Are you sitting down?

It's because somebody is trying to SELL SOMETHING.

Ummm, yeah. I celebrate Kwanzaa, and have been for most of my life. A lot of my friends do as well.

Lots of people are "nefarious." This country is built on characters of much more questionable moral character, (Columbus, Pilgrims who brought genocide to Native Americans, the slave-holding "founders" of this country, the racist but-I-still-want to-have-babies-with-my-black-slave Thomas Jefferson) yet that doesn't stop folks from celebrating Thanksgiving or Fourth of July.

It's a lovely holiday that focuses on family, personal and community values without the commercialism that Christmas has unfortunately become.

Oh brother.

Another attempt at villifying the people who created, from utter nothingness, in just 250 years what is still the greatest country on the planet. It would be disturbing if it werent absolutely and utterly laughable.

"Founders" in paranthesess? Sure, the land was here before. But if left to their own devices the indians would NEVER have built anything like, or nearly as good, as what the USA is today.

Which people? The Chinese who were abused on the railroads that led to the dramatic growth and pioneering of the West coast? The enslaved Africans who for centuries provided free labor that led this country to the economic freedom it has today? The children who risked their lives in factories at the turn of the century? No, certainly, I am not vilifying these builders of the country. In fact, I'm not vilifying anybody. I'm simply stating history.

And back to the topic at hand, the bottom line is that at the end of the day this country still celebrates the Columbuses and Jeffersons of the world, so the indiscretions faced by Kwanzaa's founder don't quite keep me up at night.

Oh dear. Bizchick is trying to goad me -- everybody see? LOL

But Ill bite. What the heck. It is christmas after all (notice the holiday I left out

Bizchick plays the angry black persona with such gusto! She upends history by claiming that it was the poow widdle african slaves, chinese and precious children who actually BUILT this country while whitey raped, pillaged and looted his way to fortune. Awwwww boohoooo If only there was just ONE place on the planet where, in the absence of whitey, africans had built their own glorious society. Sadly, there isnt.

Im familiar with reparations bizchick. Whitey OWES you a big ole check dont he? Its clear thats what you are all about. Not gonna happen. Golly gee, we let you have Kwanzaa - aint that enough?
