I mean, really? You couldn't just run away from her, tackle her, grab the hammer? You end her life? You couldn't shoot at the ground to scare her? You couldn't shoot her in the ankle? You take a lethal shot? Really? Time to hang up the badge.

Deputies shoot, kill hammer-wielding woman

Sounds like a deadly weapon to me. How does one someone wielding it and behaving in an aggressive manner toward police officers expect any other outcome?

If I am not mistaken responds to these type of calls are among the deadliest. They had to enter a private home in order to grab an armed robbery suspect, their lives are already on the line, and then a nut comes wielding a weapon. I am as liberal as they come however this woman was asking to be shot.

Yeah I don't feel bad for this woman at all. Darwinism right there, as stated, you deserve that if you attack a PO with any weapon.

The officer doesn't know if there are others in the house, and while everything is chaotic, more people could come out with hammers or weapons.

I don't feel bad for this lady one bit.

You watch too many movies. In the real world, bullets aren't that smart. Fire at the ground? Are you crazy? You do know that bullets ricochet, right?

Secondly, they are taught to shot at the biggest part of your body aka your abdomen aka center mass.

Don't feel sorry for her at all. removed by moderator - inappropriate comment . I wonder, if she was under the influence?

I'm not a very big person, and I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have to end someone's life should the be coming at me with a hammer.

How about
- Move out of the way, sure the overweight cop could outrun her.
- Shot another body part besides chest.
- Tackle her.
- Grab hammer.

Agreed, not a smart move on hammer wielding woman, but just as dumb on the part of the officer imo.

No tasers In Bartow? My first impression agreed with Atl Golfer, that it was excessive, but we weren't there, and the cops were, so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt on this one.

If they had used a taser, then some folks would complain because tasers can cause some people to have heart attacks. If they had used pepper spray, the woman might have choked to death or the officer might have been exposed to the excess spray in close quarters.

In other words, no matter what they did, different folks would say that whatever it is they did wasn't right or appropriate. You don't attack cops - period. If you do... this happens, and sorry, I don't feel sorry for people who attack cops with hammers who get shot. Some always say that the police should "weight their options" when someone is attacking them. I say, those who are doing the attacking should weigh what might happen to them before they decide to attack. Just my opinion.
