Beverly Scott once mentioned in an interview that MARTA is capable of 90 second headways as well.

The only two omissions (due to it being an old map) are the lack of a crossover at North Springs, and the track to the Armour Yard. Of course the yard trackage itself is omitted for clarity.

Ok to make at least part of this post 100% on-topic, I'll post an idea for an expension, though I've mentioned it before, it's buried deep in another thread. Basically this expansion is for a route from Lenox to Five Points simply to provide extra frequencies in the core segment. From the track map, you can see why it has to be Lenox-Five Points, those are the only two good places with pocket tracks, unless you want to deadhead from Arts Center to Lindbergh to use its pocket track. You couldn't run revenue to Lindbergh, because you end up tying up the main track instead of shuffling off into a pocket track. Scheduling becomes a bit difficult. The first option is equally dividing the core frequency so you have trains about every 3 minutes, but then you'd run a lopsided schedule outside this between Five Points and the airport with headways of 3 and 6 minutes. The second option, is to keep the Red and Gold trains as they are, and make the core service the lopsided headways, which is still unattractive. The most attractive option, and also the most expensive, is to run the core service at double headways (5 minutes for the line itself) which puts the Lenox-Five Points headway at 2.5 minutes. The technology should allow this, WMATA was theoretically capable of 90 second headways (40 trains per hour), so 24 trains per hour should be doable given the similar systems. This is attractive for simply making MARTA an option for short trips within this core area as the wait won't be more than it takes to go from the faregates to the platform.

Ok, I'm done for now, but I'll post my own physical expansion plan later.
Currently trains already arrive every 5 minutes on the shared track. MARTA was built to have 60 second headways.

So you could easily do 4 lines on one set of tracks each with 5 minute headways. For example, in addition to the North/South and Northeast/South lines, you could have a Kennesaw-Cumberland-Perimeter-College Park-Clayton line and another line such as a Peachtree Battle-Lindberg-downtown-Bankhead loop.

Don't think you need better than 5 minute headways unless you just have too many riders, but you can use common track for multiple lines.

Just joining this now...
HRT is expensive, but separate grade and high-capacity. We need a few major HRT arteries, supported by localized bus service. I'm taking from several ideas I've seen throughout this thread, so if some of these ideas seem familiar, they probably are.

In terms of rail expansion...
We could run the Gold line to Cumberland Mall instead of continuing down to Airport. Lindbergh Station would need (ideally) a set of platforms for each line, much like Five Points. Once there's a station at Cumberland, there could be a deal worked out with CSX for commuter rail to Marietta and KSU. But, getting a line to Cumberland mall might be all we can hope for, and even that might be too much. Ever wonder at the reason they're moving the Braves' Stadium?

Next would be a line to Holcomb Bridge Rd. We can push more line towards Windward as needed. I suspect the new Avalon development would take advantage of the system to some extent since it is marketed as a 'walk-able' community.

And similarly, we work to expand to Lawrenceville via the Gold Line.

And for the buses...
The HRT's separate grading will see its most gains when we can rely on it to bypass rush-hour traffic. The buses get stuck like the cars do, especially the ones running in-line with the rush hour flow. Buses should concentrate on getting people situated further from rail stations to their nearest rail station, not on all-encompassing trips via bus.

Also, maintenance and cleaning would make a big difference in MARTA's image.

I say just let Cobb be Cobb. When they get ready to run rail up to Cumberland they will do a first rate system.
