Hi! I was in a minor accident this morning. The cop gave me a ticket for "following too close" which didn't even make sense. The guy in front of me went into the left lane and as I started to pass him he turned right and I T-boned him.

Anyway, the officer went with his story and gave me the citation then told us we would both have to appear in court on the 8th of Feb. I asked if I could just pay the ticket to avoid court, he said court is mandatory.

The guy I hit doesn't want to go to court or mess with my insurance or anything. He doesn't care, he just wants to let it go. He was wondering if he would get in trouble for not showing on the court date because he doesn't think he can get off work anyway. Will they put a warrant out for him if he doesn't show? I know I have to be there, but what about him? I don't see any point in arguing my case since he isn't making me file a claim with my insurance company.

So I guess my question is: Will they put out a warrant on the guy I hit if he does not show to court? What will happen?

Call a lawyer and find out, or the office that is listed on the ticket.

Yes, he certainly can get arrested if he does not appear as ordered. Courts issue orders, not suggestions. It does not matter if he "cannot get off" from work. He can miss work to appear in Court, or he can miss work due to being incarcerated for Failure to Appear. His choice.

...or read the text that's printed on the ticket. There is probably a rather blunt statement about what will happen to him if he fails to appear.
