Some of the coldest air since 1985 is expected to plunge in to most of the USA by the 10-20th of this month. Some computer models are spitting out sub zero temperatures for Atlanta, and Atlanta's record of -9 in 1899 could be in jeopardy, so much for La Nina and global warming.
This could be a very dangerous and life threatening situation.

You've gotta be kidding me.

This could be something most of us living in the SE will never see again in our lifetime. Almost kind of scary. I will keep us posted as more model and consensus comes in later this week.

Thank you and please keep us updated. Time to switch to an antifreeze that goes below zero .

That would probably be a good idea.

Wow. -9 degrees F is quite cold regardless of where you live, and windchill at that base temperature can become deadly. Frostbite becomes a big concern.

I personally hope that doesn't come to pass here. That's almost 20 degrees colder than its been (the lowest I've seen on my thermometer at home this year is 11F), and that's a large difference in many respects.

I wonder if the freaky weather we're having has anything to do with that Icelandic volcano this past summer. I've lived in the south most of my life and I think the coldest I've seen was 6 degrees in Birmingham during the blizzard of 1993.

Well it was officially -8 (airport), some suburbs were in the -10 to -13 range, back on January 21, 1985 in Atlanta. Wind chills were approaching -50 in Atlanta.
We had 0 on Christmas eve in 1983. Yes a lot of this is from volcanic eruptions this year, it is basically squashing the La Nina effect.
